Focusing on sustainable industry Siempelkamp Giesserei commits to science-based climate targets

Climate change constitutes a major challenge to companies across the globe. It’s essential – particularly for such energy-intensive sectors as the foundry industry – to focus on sustainable solutions at an early stage. The Science Based Targets Initiative supports companies in formulating science-based emission reduction targets that are in line with those set out at the Paris climate conference. It was established as a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the WWF in 2015. The fact that Siempelkamp Giesserei has opted to participate in the SBTi is a signal that the company wants to be actively involved in this transformation and is aligning its business model with the demands of a climate-friendly economy.
“By committing to the SBTi, we’re not only prioritizing climate protection, we’re also strengthening our competitiveness. Customers are increasingly expecting sustainable production processes – and we take this responsibility seriously. Setting our sights on these targets will also help us secure our location and jobs over the long term,” Dr. Georg Geier, Managing Director at Siempelkamp Giesserei, explains.
The decision in favor of SBTi underscores the company’s innovative strength and its pioneering role in the industry. The foundry not only wants to reduce its own emissions, it also hopes to make a contribution to the sustainable transformation of the entire industry.
Siempelkamp Giesserei completed the first phase of this process with the commitment it made in March. The next step is for the SBTi to carry out a scientific review of the climate targets. That will include a detailed analysis of the greenhouse-gas balance and validation of the action plan to reduce emissions.
Siempelkamp Giesserei is sending a strong signal with this commitment: Climate protection and industrial production are compatible – and companies that are quick to respond to the challenges of the future will take a decisive lead in changing markets.
